The dogs who inspired Lavender Threads
My Rosie was nineteen. Frodo, my sister’s dog, was fifteen. Ruby, my dad’s dog, was sixteen. Moose, my daughter’s dog, was only three. Within six months, our family lost all four.
As an empty nester, losing Rosie meant losing my little companion after nineteen years together. At the same time, I was watching my family lose their companions too.
I wanted to do something to remember them—to capture their eyes and the details of their faces that made each one so familiar to us. I began drawing portraits for my family, including Frodo for my sister’s birthday and Ruby after my dad lost her.
That is the heart of Lavender Threads. I pay special attention to the eyes, the expression, and the little details you know by heart. Whether your pet is still beside you or you are remembering one you’ve lost, I’d love to create something personal for your family.
Caring for your portrait
Your finished charcoal portrait is sealed with fixative to help protect it from smudging. Please handle your original artwork gently, avoid touching or rubbing the drawn surface, and keep it dry and out of direct sunlight.
